
GED Preparation Class
The GED is nationally recognized as a high school equivalency diploma. In the GED preparation classroom, students receive instruction in reading, writing, math, social studies and science.
Basic Skills Improvement Class (ABE)
In the Basic Skills Improvement class, students receive individulized and self-paced instruction in reading, writing or math. These skills may help an individual who is seeking employment or pursuing post-secondary education. There is a $25 annual materials and supply fee.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
In the English as a Seconda Language Class, students receive instruction in conversational English, reading and writing. ESL class helps students to understand their community and to prepare for the U.S. Citizenship test.
Rapid City Academy Career Learning Center
The Rapid City Academy at the Career Learning Center is designed for students who are at risk of not graduating and have earned eleven (11) or more credits. Students in this program work a designated number of hours per week at the student’s own pace. Instruction is individualized and school district’s curriculum. Students may be full-time Academy students, or they may be dual or tri-enrolled with Central or Stevens High School or perhaps Jefferson Academy and/or Western Dakota Tech (WDT).
The Learning Zone (TLZ)
This program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities for students at are enrolled in the Rapid City Academies. The program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs including career preparation; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating student.
Annual Fee for Materials and Supplies
Beginning July 1, 2011, all adult education students will pay a $25 per year fee for materials and supplies. Each student's fee will provide classroom materials for 12 continuous months. Payment may be made with cash, check, credit card or debit card.
GED Test Fee
The GED test fee is $95. Eligibly students may apply for a scholarship. Payment may be made with cash, check, credit card or debit card at the time of the GED Test Registration. Examinees need a valid photo ID and a Social Security Card.
